Photographer and surf journalist John Witzig helped record the culture taking shape around the Byron coast. His 1969 photograph Arcadia shows surfers Wayne Lynch and Bob McTavish in the hills behind Byron Bay, a quiet counterpoint to photographs of action on the waves. Witzig also helped establish Tracks magazine in 1970. His photographs and magazine work helped carry this surfing culture to a wider audience. The image gives the surrounding landscape a place in the story alongside the surfers themselves.
